Fast Wednesdays: January 4, 2017 — A New Year

Greetings Beloved:

My prayers are that everyone has had some blessed holidays even with the daily trials and tribulations we all must endure. Hopefully, you have some priceless memories added to your photo book of life. I am certain many of us have heard and experienced 2016 being a rough and challenging year. I submit every year is such but GOD is in control and gets us through them.

As we launch into 2017, we have a clean slate which excites many. Lets do everything we can to do it right, do it “scared” or just do it! Lose that weight, save that money, read that bible from the beginning to the end, whatever your hearts desire.

We buried my sister-in-law, Carol J. Fuller on Monday, January 2, 2017, as she would say “Live, Laugh and Love.”

Today’s Fast Wednesdays Honorees:

Memorial: Sister-in-law, Carol J. Fuller, May 22, 1963 – December 28, 2016

In Honor of her husband, children and grandchild: Fred, Dustin, Sade, Breanna, Malachai and Harmony Grace (Fred Q. Fuller, predeceased)

Birthday Shout Out: Kaici Love-Gavin

I closed last year with a Prayer-Meditation from Howard Washington Thurman on Christmas. Let us begin with one from him on New Year:

A New Year – The climate of silence gives clear meaning to the long shadow cast by the events of the year so recently passed: The high resolve with which we began it; the stumbling, faltering ways by which we ended it … The narrow escapes from violence, within, without … The high moments which in themselves seemed to contain all the goodness, beauty, and completeness of life … Those hours of sadness and weeping when there was taken from our midst someone whose life was deeply entwined with our own – since the leave-taking the way has been hard, difficult, with no bond to heal the ruptured life, the broken heart …

We do not quite know how to face the New Year, but face it we must. We do not know, our Father, nor do we wish to know what there is in store for us tomorrow. As we share the intimacy of this moment, quiet our spirits with Thy great calm that we may not be afraid, that we may be sustained whatever betides. This is not our only option, our Father, but we seized upon it, as if it were – we do it with enthusiasm and with hope. Desert us not to the despairing grasp of what may be our futilities, God of our spirits.

SCRIPTURE:

I’ll share a couple based on those who have already responded to the Survey above regarding some of their favorite scriptures:

Cindy Campbell: Jeremiah 9:24  Let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the LORD.

Debra J. Fuller Ellis Psalm 37:4 “Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.”

Ann McGovern: Luke 1:37 – “For with God nothing shall be impossible.”

Mary Ellen McGee: Psalm 23 King James Version (KJV)

Karen & Patrick Gonzalez – ALL (So guess we will have to read the entire bible with them)

SONG:
Our song for this week is submitted for your listening pleasure, by Nicole Fuller. Probably your last Christmas song from 2016 and first for 2017!

Reminder/Date Change: Survey Due by January 10, 2017

Thanks to all who have responded to the Survey thus far. As I explained, my goal is to make our Fast Wednesdays exchange as informative and impactful as possible because I know time is a precious commodity these days and want to make sure you gain from this interaction. I know the holidays and “life” were upon us, so please note I am extending the Survey Due Date to January 10, 2017. This is the survey in case you cannot locate it. Please respond even if you were newly added to the distribution list as your responses will be helpful. For those of you who have already responded, I am humbled. (Disclaimer: I may be using this information as a part of some of the requirements for my Master’s in Religious Studies project/program I am in at Hartford Seminary, Hartford, CT).

  • Please rate on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being less and 10 most, how helpful these posts are you in terms of encouragement.
  • Though I have not often shared guest bloggers, is this something you would like to see more often. (Note: Guest Bloggers to-date, have been a few of my sisters in Christ, who have shared a theme/topic that they feel would benefit us all. And, gives you, my audience an opportunity to hear from others with different messages and perspectives and all coming from the same source: the Lord).
  • How do you prefer to receive this information? Facebook, Word Press, email or other?
  • The normal layout is a Theme with relevant A. Scripture, B. Song and C. Prayer. Does this work? Any other Suggestions?
  •  I am asking for your commitment. If you would be kind enough to send me your name and your favorite scripture, I will track it and pray for you in 2017. If you don’t have one just send me your name. We can work on that. If you have a Jewish or Muslim friend you may also include something from your sacred book(s).

Love, Joy and Peace,

Debra J. Ellis

Reminder AND/OR for those of you just joining us either by contacting me or I personally added you: The  purpose of Fast Wednesdays is to draw near to God on this specific day of the week fasting and praying in whatever manner the Holy Spirit is leading you as sisters in Christ…some have fasted from social media, coffee, or observed a traditional fast with no eating from sunrise to sunset with only liquids for the day, no deserts, etc. I know many of us for various reasons participate every week but in different manners. This has still been beneficial and the sisterhood continues to grow!

The key ingredient is that we are doing this together as sisters, of all ages, in the Lord both chronologically and spiritually in accordance to: A God-Filled Life Titus 2:3-5 “Guide older women into lives of reverence so they end up as neither gossips nor drunks, but models of goodness. By looking at them, the younger women will know how to love their husbands and children, be virtuous and pure, keep a good house, be good wives. We don’t want anyone looking down on God’s Message because of their behavior.”
Note: Please share Fast Wednesdays with your friends and/or send me names to add to the distribution list. For now, I will post in three places: email (djf52055@gmail.com), Facebook (Debra Fuller Ellis) and blog https://fastwednesdays.wordpress.com
