Fast Wednesdays: Week of September 23, 2015 – “Getting our Houses in Order” Part II

Greetings Beloved!

First, thanks for all your prayers, my dad is home and resting well … the surgery for the pacemaker went so very well, to me, its like someone gave him a new battery he has such restored spark!
Next, I shared four areas last week for the types of mentors you need in your life to succeed … hopefully, you all either identified your “posse” or a place/area in your life where you need to prayer for God’s direction to bring you a person in that area. I will repeat the four areas for you further below.

Many of you know that when I learn something new, I like to meditate on it, share it and just enjoy it…so, today I plan to keep Fast Wednesday very simple … let’s just meditate and pray while we “Be Still and Know that He is God.”

Our theme for the next several weeks will be “getting our houses in order.” Today let us focus on “Prayer” and “Focus.”

My mom, sister and I went to see the movie “War Room” this weekend. Well, I already enjoy anything “Priscilla Shirer.” We have done three of her studies in our Women’s Ministry: Discerning the Voice of God, One in a Million and Breathe. The movie was reverting for me. The message, for me, is just how important prayer is in our lives. I also went out and purchased Fervent, which is a book Priscilla penned centered around the movie. I am sure I will be sharing snippets but I strongly recommend you get it if you can and let it be one of your strategic tools for your prayer life.

Actually, there is a chapter in the book on Focus. “Focus clears away dead space and clutter. It’s what sharpens the images in your photographs, capturing detail and highlights you want to remember, while pushing less important things to the background or cropping them out altogether. Focus minimizes distractions, lowering your risk of being blindsided. It keeps you from being preoccupied, from overlooking important facts that would’ve been readily obvious if you’d only been paying better attention. Focus protects your goals and dreams from being consumed in small bites, stolen right out from under your nose in twenty-minute segments of compromise. AND, focus is the antenna that prayer helps to keep raised and alert, making you keenly aware if somebody’s trying to play you for a fool.”

As we “focus and pray” on this today, I’ll share the scriptures in the chapter and you look them up. (Reminder: There are many online tools you can use to look up scripture beginning with Bible Gateway).

SCRIPTURES:
Romans 8:38-39 NLT
Ephesians 1:21 NLT
Philippians 2:9-11
Psalm 30:1
Micah 7:8

Psalm 68:1

Remember, the battle is not YOURS but the LORDS!

SONG:
Lyrics from “This is My Desire”
This is my desire to honor you
Lord, with all my heart I worship you
All I have within me I give You praise
All that I adore is in you

Lord I give you my heart
I give you my soul
I live for you alone
Every breath that I take
Every moment I’m awake
Lord have Your way in me

Reminder:
The 4 Types of Mentors You Need in Your Life to Succeed” – Meet the 4 C’s–different types of people who make up a personal board of directors. Without them, you’ll have a much harder time achieving success:

1. The Coach.
2. The Connector.
3. The Cheerleader.
4. The Challenger.

Prayer:
Dear Father, first, I gave you thanks for answered prayers, you do it for time and again and many times I do not even  stop and take the time to say thank you. Thanks for my dad and your personal healing of his body and for how you are blessing my mom with joy and peace unspeakable. Today Lord I ask you to help me focus on you through prayer. Create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit. A spirit of worship and praise and I will give you all glory and honor. Amen…

Love, Joy and Peace,
Debra J. Ellis

Reminder AND/OR for those of you just joining us: The purpose of Fast Wednesdays is to draw near to God on this specific day of the week fasting and praying in whatever manner the Holy Spirit is leading you as sisters (and some brothers) in Christ…some have fasted from social media, coffee, or observed a traditional fast with no eating from sunrise to sunset with only liquids for the day, no deserts, etc. I know many of us, for various reasons, participate every week but in different manners. This has still been beneficial and the blog continues to grow!

The key ingredient is that we are doing this together as sisters, of all ages, in the Lord, both chronologically and spiritually in accordance to: A God-Filled Life Titus 2:3-5 “Guide older women into lives of reverence so they end up as neither gossips nor drunks, but models of goodness. By looking at them, the younger women will know how to love their husbands and children, be virtuous and pure, keep a good house, be good wives. We don’t want anyone looking down on God’s Message because of their behavior.”  Note: Please share Fast Wednesdays with your friends and/or send me names to add to the distribution list. For now, I will post in three places: email (djf52055@gmail.com), Facebook (Debra Fuller Ellis) and blog in Word Press: https://fastwednesdays.wordpress.com/
