This week’s focus is on Faith and Hope based on our survey we had a couple of weeks ago:
1) Gifts or Character (Last week’s topic)
2) Faith or Hope
3) Respect or Love
4) Silence or Debating
5) Humility or Servant
When it comes to Faith or Hope the overwhelming response was for Faith…indeed, again, while we need BOTH let’s look at a survey comment for each before we dive into FAITH:
– Faith “We need faith to believe and receive the gift of salvation. Without faith it is impossible to please God.”
– Hope “…keeps positive attitude which helps keep ‘me in’ right frame of mind to remember my faith.”
FYI, listed below are over 85 scriptures dealing with faith, they either have the word faith in them or the “essence” of what faith means in them. Some of us may not have had the teaching, desire or the ability to search the bible for scriptures yet. One method for our days, if you’re looking, is youmay put in a topic or word and GOOGLE i.e. “Faith in the scriptures” and you will get tons of results. Also, many of you may still read traditional bibles such as King James or the Apocrypha version but you want to dig deeper. Well there’s Bible applications you can download on your smartphone or android. I have various: Olive Tree, Holy Bible, Bible Gateway (more about it later) as well as my church’s app which has events going on the church, sermons, online giving features, more bibles and announcements (New Life Assembly, Lehigh Acres, FL).
Additionally, I exhaustively, use a website called Bible Gateway (which is also the downloaded app mentioned above). Its a searchable online Bible. You can search in over 50 versions of the bible and in over 35 languages. When I want to use a version of the Bible that will speak to me in a more contemporary fashion I will use versions such as the The Message, Contemporary English, Good News, etc. I typically read and study the Psalms and Proverbs using the King James version and actually when I want to memorize verses I use King James…okay, I do know I’m crazy…!
I have listed “my top 10 scriptures” on faith. The first scripture on faith is Hebrews 11. As an example of the above, lets look at Hebrews 11:1-4 in the various versions I mentioned. Note: Additionally, you can purchase parallel bibles and they will actually show several versions across the page, if you do not have a Christian book store nearby, good old Amazon.com will do.
Hebrews 11:1-4 The Message (MSG) Faith in What We Don’t See … 11 1-2 The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It’s our handle on what we can’t see. The act of faith is what distinguished our ancestors, set them above the crowd.3 By faith, we see the world called into existence by God’s word, what we see created by what we don’t see.4 By an act of faith, Abel brought a better sacrifice to God than Cain. It was what he believed, not what he brought, that made the difference. That’s what God noticed and approved as righteous. After all these centuries, that belief continues to catch our notice.
Hebrews 11:1-4 Contemporary English Version (CEV) – The Great Faith of God’s People 11 Faith makes us sure of what we hope for and gives us proof of what we cannot see. 2 It was their faith that made our ancestors pleasing to God. 3 Because of our faith, we know that the world was made at God’s command. We also know that what can be seen was made out of what cannot be seen. 4 Because Abel had faith, he offered God a better sacrifice than Cain did. God was pleased with him and his gift, and even though Abel is now dead, his faith still speaks for him.
Hebrews 11:1-4Good News Translation (GNT) – Faith 11 To have faith is to be sure of the things we hope for, to be certain of the things we cannot see. 2 It was by their faith that people of ancient times won God’s approval. 3 It is by faith that we understand that the universe was created by God’s word, so that what can be seen was made out of what cannot be seen. 4 It was faith that made Abel offer to God a better sacrifice than Cain’s. Through his faith he won God’s approval as a righteous man, because God himself approved of his gifts. By means of his faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead.
This scripture, first of all is based on both faith and hope. It also tells me that we have to use our spiritual eyes and senses and not just our natural, carnal ones. For example, many times I have hoped for something to happen. There were times where what I hoped for did not look like it was going to happen at all and people would even tell me “you are not going to get such an such because of so and so. I would grin and smile with them and as I matured in my faith, I would use my spiritual eyes and say things like “I can do all things through GOD who strengthens me…” and BAM, my God, the father of the universe, the greatest creator, would create my blessing and give me the desires of my heart…JUST FOR ME…it was between he and I, that I never gave up faith…I am not successful all the time resting in my faith, hoping and believing in GOD but I am getting there in baby steps. I hope and pray the same for you!
As we prepare for the fourth quarter of 2014, look back over the year and take inventory of what your faith has gotten you and where it has “delivered” you…I told you at the beginning of the year and periodically throughout, I’m EXPECTING…and without a doubt I have given birth to dreams, plans, my future and so much more and I know GOD is not a respector of persons so he’s doing the same for you. I encourage you to journal or write things down. When I go back and look at my entries, I am just totally blown away and amazed by it all…and we still have three months left!

Selah…Manifest…Selah…we decree it, declare it and call it in the spirit…Selah…for our faith shall make us whole. Amen.
“When we see the word Selah in a psalm or in Habakkuk 3, we should pause to carefully weigh the meaning of what we have just read or heard, lifting up our hearts in praise to God for His great truths. “All the earth bows down to you; they sing praise to you, they sing praise to your name.” Selah! (Psalm 66:4)”

Reminder AND/OR for those of you just joining us: The purpose of Fast Wednesdays is to draw near to God on this specific day of the week fasting and praying in whatever manner the Holy Spirit is leading you as sisters (and some brothers) in Christ…some have fasted from social media, coffee, or observed a traditional fast with no eating from sunrise to sunset with only liquids for the day, no deserts, etc. I know many of us, for various reasons, participate every week but in different manners. This has still been beneficial and the blog continues to grow!
The key ingredient is that we are doing this together as sisters, of all ages, in the Lord, both chronologically and spiritually in accordance to: A God-Filled Life Titus 2:3-5 “Guide older women into lives of reverence so they end up as neither gossips nor drunks, but models of goodness. By looking at them, the younger women will know how to love their husbands and children, be virtuous and pure, keep a good house, be good wives. We don’t want anyone looking down on God’s Message because of their behavior.” Note: Please share Fast Wednesdays with your friends and/or send me names to add to the distribution list. For now, I will post in three places: email (firstname.lastname@example.org), Facebook (Debra Fuller Ellis) and blog in Word Press: https://fastwednesdays.wordpress.com/
