Fast Wednesdays, February 27, 2014 – “Taking Care of What you Already Have aka Decluttering”

Define declutter:  to simplify or get rid of mess, disorder, complications, etc:

Greetings Beloved!

Today’s Fast Wednesday topic was provided by a dear friend who retired last year. It’s centered on “taking care of what you have already before moving on to new things” or what I am calling “decluttering” or “taking care of your perennials” for all you gardening enthusiasts and especially my friends up north who are looking for something to bloom other than bad weather.

When I asked my friend to give me an example, I was told “I can’t give you an example, that’s too much like work and I no longer play dat. But it’s like gardening, old friendships are the perennials, the backbone of the garden that always come back, not like the annuals that leave after a short time.”

John 15:5

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

Remember, then, try to focus on the big things in life. How do we do that you say? Abide in God at all times. God is eternal and we are just vapors here on earth for such a short time. We then focus on our families. First, our significant others because the divine order of God’s plans are they are probably going to be around the longest in our lives. They are the perennials in our gardens. Next it’s our children, instill them with good habits and love by spending quality time with them which is free, you just have to set aside time, in this busy world we live in. And, its amazing how rapidly they grow up and are off on their own seems like way before you realize it! They are like the annuals of our gardens. Some of our friends are the perennials (thank GOD I have many of these) while others are the annuals (thank GOD for these also in my life who have taught me many things).

(Abide: comply with, obey, observe, follow, keep to, hold to, conform to, adhere to, stick to, stand by, act in accordance with, uphold, heed, accept, go along with, acknowledge, respect, etc).

2 Corinthians 13:11 Living Bible (TLB)

11 I close my letter with these last words: Be happy. Grow in Christ. Pay attention to what I have said. Live in harmony and peace. And may the God of love and peace be with you.

Psalm 127:2 (CEV)

It is useless to get up early and stay up late in order to earn a living. God takes care of  his own, even while they sleep.

Father, thanks for the constant things in our lives, such as you will “never leave us or forsake us.” Many times in our evolution, we find you are always there, but it is us who have strayed off the path. Thanks for resetting our compasses and putting us back on track with your divine order. Give us the desire to take care of what we already have so that we do not spend our days looking for the items we have lost or misplaced or building material idols in our lives which never satisfy and surely fade. But more importantly, help us to spend time with you, our husbands, wives, children, family, friends and all significant others, pouring into their lives so we do not lose or misplace what’s important in our relationships with you and them.AMEN.

I gather most of you realize by now I enjoy HAPPY songs…so here we go:

Reminder AND/OR for those of you just joining us: The purpose of Fast Wednesdays is to draw near to God on this specific day of the week fasting and praying in whatever manner the Holy Spirit is leading you as sisters (and some brothers) in Christ…some have fasted from social media, coffee, or observed a traditional fast with no eating from sunrise to sunset with only liquids for the day, no deserts, etc. I know many of us, for various reasons, participate every week but in different manners. This has still been beneficial and the blog continues to grow!

The key ingredient is that we are doing this together as sisters, of all ages, in the Lord, both chronologically and spiritually in accordance to: A God-Filled Life Titus 2:3-5 “Guide older women into lives of reverence so they end up as neither gossips nor drunks, but models of goodness. By looking at them, the younger women will know how to love their husbands and children, be virtuous and pure, keep a good house, be good wives. We don’t want anyone looking down on God’s Message because of their behavior.”  Note: Please share Fast Wednesdays with your friends and/or send me names to add to the distribution list. For now, I will post in three places: email (, Facebook (Debra Fuller Ellis) and blog in Word Press:
