Our topic for today is taken from Psalm 46:10.
Our youth pastor took a group to Iceland this summer. While there he had an accident and is walking on crutches, now has a cast and a wheel chair. He shared how the experience has FORCED him to slow down. I try to learn by example and through others experiences. I pray GOD does not have to put us through ALL that to get our attention. So, I have started slowing down, listening more for the Holy Spirit and spending more time in my prayers. I am asking each of you to “take time each day to be still and to exalt GOD.” Put him on your schedule in a meaningful way and especially Fast Wednesdays as we seek him.
New King James Version (NKJV)
10 Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!
“When we put our problems in God’s hands, He puts His peace in our hearts.”
I have read, several times, a great book called “Taming your Finances” in 30 days by Deborah Smith Pegues. The link below provides a synopsis with tips laid out for each day. Its loaded with wisdom, humor and common sense…subtitled “What do Do (and Not Do) to Better Manage Your Money.”
Last week, I was listening to a special on CNN regarding African American women and health. Its definitely a problem we need to address so I am starting with myself. I signed up for this walk “Girl Trek” earlier this year and have seen results thanks to Deidre Murphy. We have signed up to WALK IT OUT with @GirlTrek! Sign up and join us for the 40-Day walk challenge girltrek.org . Starts 10/14 (This one is being called the “40-Day Gratitude Walk” and is slated to finish for Thanksgiving)! (Let me know if you sign up and perhaps I’ll submit our names as a team — The Fast Wednesdays team)!
Dear Lord, I pray that we are well-balanced in our lives and lean not to our own understanding but in all our ways acknowledge you for you order/direct our steps. Help us not become irritable and fatigued at what we are doing feeling no one appreciates all that we do. Help us to step back and take a personal inventory of all the ways you have blessed us. Let us remember there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven. Help us to keep our priorities in order; to fulfill our call and responsibilities at home. While at work help us stay focused on our projects. Also, help us take time out to find rest (relief, ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for our soul. Let us cast our cares on you for you affectionately and ultimately care for us. Help us to grow firm in our faith, rooted, established, strong, immovable, determined and grounded in you securely, amen.
Love, Joy and Peace,
Debra J. Ellis
Note to Kim Klunder and Shylethia Brown Williams…thanks again for your recent blogs. They were a blessing to all of us. May you be blessed double fold!
Reminder AND/OR for those of you just joining us either by contacting me or I personally added you: The purpose of Fast Wednesdays is to draw near to God on this specific day of the week fasting and praying in whatever manner the Holy Spirit is leading you as sisters in Christ…some have fasted from social media, coffee, or observed a traditional fast with no eating from sunrise to sunset with only liquids for the day, no deserts, etc. I know many of us for various reasons participate every week but in different manners. This has still been beneficial and the sisterhood continues to grow!The key ingredient is that we are doing this together as sisters, of all ages, in the Lord both chronologically and spiritually in accordance to: A God-Filled Life Titus 2:3-5 “Guide older women into lives of reverence so they end up as neither gossips nor drunks, but models of goodness. By looking at them, the younger women will know how to love their husbands and children, be virtuous and pure, keep a good house, be good wives. We don’t want anyone looking down on God’s Message because of their behavior.”
Note: Please share Fast Wednesdays with your friends and/or send me names to add to the distribution list. For now, I will post in three places: email (email@example.com), Facebook (Debra Fuller Ellis) and blog https://fastwednesdays.wordpress.com
