Fast Wednesdays, May 9, 2012 — Resolve to be Content … Happy Mother’s Day

This week I am adding a category called HISTORY. I recently discovered that throughout this year and next there will be various events commemorating and celebrating the 150th anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln’s drafting of the Emancipation Proclamation, which brought about freedom for 4,000,000 slaves, for my non US friends. Please listen to the video if you get a chance because it discusses some very interesting matters surrounding the topic and how people at the time expressed themselves on the matter.

HISTORY:  150th Anniversary of the Emancipation ProclamationThe year 2012 marks the 150th anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln’s drafting of the Emancipation Proclamation, the document that transformed the meaning of the American Civil War and helped bring about freedom for 4,000,000 African American slaves.

Anybody have any comments on the above topic…this video was fascinating especially with the historical artifacts and FACTS.

PHYSICAL: This week I am “plugging” again,…could someone please let me know if you tried it, your thoughts, impressions, etc. and I will share next week…
SparkPeople is a private company which develops and maintains several healthy living websites. The best known website is has a free daily calculator & tracker for daily calories consumed, and a number of other resources, including meal plans, for those who want to lose weight. Spark People assumes people will buy food in their local supermarket. It does not sell food. The tracker library has a comprehensive list of ordinary and brand name foods. Tracking is based on calories, although it is possible, and easy, to track carbohydrates, fat, or nutrients such as calcium, folic acid, iron, or sodium, or almost any labelled nutrient that the user wishes to monitor. Persons can add to the foods in the database, and the foods users add are available to all other users, which can be very helpful on some of the newer food choices.

This site offers a free four-stage diet program which uses tools, content, and support to help users make lifestyle changes. Users are prompted to enter height, weight, and amount they intend to exercise, as well as a target date and weight. The site then gives recommendations for calorie, fat, and carbohydrate intake based on calculated BMR, as well as a personalized fitness plan. Users can enter the foods they eat and exercises they complete and are given feedback via charts and prompts on their progress. The site also has numerous articles on nutrition, fitness, motivation, and general health. Support is provided through other users and experts on messageboards as well as from social networking features like member pages, teams of users with some common bond (like quilting or college students), and blogOne of the features of the website is SparkDiet, a proprietary diet program. The four stages of the diet are:

  • Fast Break, which gives users a simple goal to complete for several weeks in order to provide a springboard toward other goals.
  • Healthy Diet Habits, which aims at various pillars of success in diet such as portion control, exercising consistently, and drinking water.
  • Lifestyle change, which teaches consistency and constant motivation in health and diet goals.
  • Spread the Spark, which gives tips and goals to continue a person’s goals and to teach others.

There is no charge for any of these “programs” and they are optional, that is, one can use the free daily tracker and all the social networking without anything else.

This past weekend, on Friday evening and Saturday morning, I was blessed to go to see a simulcast lead by Priscilla Shirer from Going Beyond Ministries. She was actually in Orlando, FL,  and I watched from MacGregor Baptist Church, Ft. Myers, FL. There were over 100 women in attendance where I was and we were informed that over 80,000 women were watching from various groups around the world. What was interesting about my location is that there were at least 5 different churches and therefore, denominations, at the location. We had special prayer time Saturday morning and it was one of the most beautiful prayer times among women or people for that matter that I ever experienced…the sisters/women of GOD were on fire with their prayers for the Lord and, imagine, it CROSSED DENOMINATIONS…actually, it was my first simulcast of this type and I would definitely do it again!

Her brother, Anthony Evans, was there as worship leader and what awesome testimonies he shared from his experience being on the reality show THE VOICE, etc. He does have anointed voice for GOD.

Our weekend centered on four of the thirteen resolutions found in “The Resolution For Women“. Priscilla challenged those in attendance to make firm decisions that would help to shape the women we would become in the future.

A Resolution To Be Content

A Resolution To Be Faithfully His

A resolution To Care

A Resolution To Live With Grace

Of the four resolutions, I reflected most on contentment. It means self-sufficiency, satisfied with who you are…its a matter of balancing what you have and where you are right now and looking forward to what God will have for you in the future. The sermon was from Luke 9:16 and it was a “Lesson for the Disciples” and us…

Luke 9 21st Century King James Version (KJ21)

9:1 Then He called His twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils and to cure diseases.

And He sent them to preach the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick.

And He said unto them, “Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor pack, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece.

And whatsoever house ye enter into, there abide and thence depart.

And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them.”

And they departed and went through the towns, preaching the Gospel and healing everywhere.

Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that had been done by Him. And he was perplexed, because it was said by some that John was risen from the dead;

and by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the old prophets was risen again.

And Herod said, “John have I beheaded, but who is this of whom I hear such things?” And he desired to see Him.

10 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. And He took them and went aside privately into a desert place belonging to the city called Bethsaida.

11 And the people, when they learned of it, followed Him. And He received them and spoke unto them of the Kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing.

12 And when the day began to wear away, then came the twelve and said unto Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the towns and country round about and lodge and get victuals, for we are here in a desert place.

13 But He said unto them, “Give ye them to eat.” And they said, “We have no more than five loaves and two fishes, unless we should go and buy meat for all these people.”

14 For they were about five thousand men. And He said to His disciples, “Make them sit down by fifties in a company.”

15 And they did so, and made them all sit down.

16 Then He took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to Heaven, He blessed them and broke, and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude.

17 And they ate and were all filled, and there were taken up of fragments that remained to them twelve baskets.

We learn that there is a multitude with them that needs to be fed. The disciples say “send them away” at first but in verse 13 Jesus says “Give ye them to eat…” If you look back in verse 1 you see that Jesus had already given them power and equipped them so that they had all they needed in their midst to feed the crowds as well as power to do all types of things.

What are you trying to send away but its in your power already to accomplish? Don’t forget that “all things work together for the good of the Lord” so do not send away what God is welcoming to bring about your “change.” We need to learn contentment. If God gives you a command he will equip you with what you need if you only obey.

Happiness lying just beyond your reach is the LIE the enemy of your soul has told you since the beginning of time. GOD is SOVEREIGN. We are shocked sometimes when things click and come together. God never is, he has always known it will work out. Speak GOD’s truth and word over your life and circumstances, and, just like the disciples, you will discover you have more than what you can see in the natural…verse 16 and 17 shows us where 1) He blessed the elements 2) Broke them and 3) Gave to disciples and after they had feed the multitude they still have a basket each (12) of left overs…Multiplication is in the Division…miracles!

PRAYER: Dear Father, I thank you for those who are reading this. I pray that it encourages them as much as you inspire me to collect the information together and send to them. Help us to realize that you equip us exceedingly and abundantly above anything we can ask or think. Keep us in your will and may your will be done in our lives versus our own will which usually leads us toward destruction. Bless the mothers out there and let them know its about them everyday, bless those who desire to be mothers and those who are struggling with motherhood as well as the overwhelmed. Blessed the fathers who are being mothers, the grandmothers who are being mothers, and all the other surrogates. Let us remember that you are more than enough and we will be content in whatever state we find ourselves DAILY for ourselves and with our children. Let us enjoy them everyday and in every way and reconcile those who are in hurting and painfully relationships…let us be ministers of your reconciliation power through love. In Jesus Name, AMEN!

P.S. HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!!! (Picture of MY GIRL attached)…

Reminder & for those of you just joining us either by contacting me or I personally added you: The purpose of Fast Wednesdays is to draw near to God on this specific day of the week fasting and praying in whatever manner the Holy Spirit is leading you as sisters in Christ…some have fasted from social media, coffee, or observed a traditional fast with no eating from sunrise to sunset with only liquids for the day, no deserts, etc. I know many of us for various reasons participate every week but in different manners. This has still been beneficial and the sisterhood continues to grow!

The key ingredient is that we are doing this together as sisters, of all ages, in the Lord both chronologically and spiritually in accordance to: Titus 2 — A God-Filled Life 3-5Guide older women into lives of reverence so they end up as neither gossips nor drunks, but models of goodness. By looking at them, the younger women will know how to love their husbands and children, be virtuous and pure, keep a good house, be good wives. We don’t want anyone looking down on God’s Message because of their behavior.

Note: Please share Fast Wednesdays with your friends and/or send me names to add to the distribution list. For now, I will post in three places: email (, Facebook (Debra Fuller Ellis) and blog
