Fast Wednesdays, April 4, 2012 — Abundant Life!

Greetings BELOVED!

First, CONGRATULATIONS Kaici Love Gavin for being the first to respond to last weeks offer. You have won “those earrings!”

As I continue to pray that we prosper physically, spiritually, financially, etc. I will share some items/thoughts in these three categories today.

PHYSICALLY:
Several of us started the GirlTrek walking challenge on April 1 which is primarily just walking for 30 minutes 5 times a week for 10 weeks. When you sign up you can have an email sent to an accountability partner at the mid-way point, etc. Below is information on the total GirlTrek project. (Thanks Deirdre Murphy for sharing the information)…

‎50000 women strong non-profit organization GirlTrek has been inspiring and influencing women and young girls throughout the country to take strides in the right direction for their health. What started off as a routine phone conversation between Vanessa Garrison and Tanya Morgan Dixon later evolved …

FINANCIALLY:
Most of us know about Madame C.J. Walker, our first millionaire.

I read an article recently that young African American single women have the least amount of savings, on average about $100! However, they own the most expensive cars, the most purses over $100, etc…we will talk…

Wonder what Madame Walker would think of how we are managing our finances as a community? Anyhow, I believe there is an entrepreneur in all of us and I would love to have a “guest” speak on the topic of finances…let me know!

SPIRITUALLY:
Today, I am delighted, honored, blessed and thrilled to have my great friend Shylethia Brown Williams share on the subject of Abundant Life! Shylethia and I have been friends since around 1996. We met at my former church in Stamford, CT. Actually we were entrepreneurs together when we were selling Her Game 2 clothing by Deborah Williams. I think I feed Shylethia her last piece of steak because she now, for many years, does not eat red meat or pork, and it started at my house. We have done many things together but the most important, to me, of all, was learning more about the Lord and worshipping and praising GOD together!

As we prepare to enjoy the teaching today, please begin by listening to this video “More of You”…

What is living an Abundant Life?

In John 10:10 Jesus said, “The thief does not come except to steal, and kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

Abundantly, Perissos (per-is-soss); Strong’s #4053: Superabundance, excessive, overflowing, surplus, over and above, more than enough, profuse, extraordinary, above the ordinary, more than sufficient.

When you think of the word abundance, our thoughts may turn toward having lots of physical things or possessions.  However, having lots of earthly possession is not enough to living an abundant life. An abundant life is a life lived unto God and lived to please God. Our abundance, that is the Christians, is not based on how many possessions or riches we have but on our obedience to the Word of God and how our lives glorify God.

After listening to the news about Whitney Houston’s death and how much she accomplished and possessed, confirmed in my heart that there is more to life with God than having riches and possessions of this world. My heart was a little weary about this because Whitney Houston was some we as women could admire and look up to she had ‘everything’ according to the world’s standards:  beauty, power, prestige, money, fame and was very gifted yet it was not enough in the end as she turned to illegal drugs, prescribed drugs and alcohol to enjoy life and possibly cope with life.  She was raised in the church and knew the teachings of Jesus but somewhere along the journey she left the more abundant life with God to pursue more of the world.  Last night on ABC news Dr. Cissy Houston, Whitney’s mom finally shared on her daughter’s death. During the discussion she said “she was special to me, she was proud of her daughter and she had everything….”  I believe Whitney Houston wanted a more abundant life with God toward the end of her life and Satan tried to steal, kill and destroy everything she had. But she was a conqueror in Christ Jesus…

Today while we FAST let us focus on how we can live an Abundant Life.  During one of my personal Bible studies I read a footnote in the Life Application Bible that stated “Elisha saw more in life than most people because he recognized that WITH GOD there is more to life.”  My spirit leaped for joy when reading this because when you are in a relationship with Jesus Christ and living for HIM you know there is eternal abundance we receive which cannot be replaced with NOTHING temporary.  This abundance is based on the eternal blessings Jesus has provided for us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  When these fruits of the Spirit are manifested in our lives daily this is what it means to living an abundant life. We also have been given a wealth of gifts we can share with the world: Some of these gifts used to edify Jesus given to us by the Holy Spirit are:  giving, prophesying, teaching, faith, working of miracles, discerning of spirits, preaching, pastoring, evangelizing, speaking words of wisdom and words of knowledge to help change a life that is headed for destruction.  When our lives are used to glorify God, we are living an abundant life.   Today, while FASTING let us seek more of the eternal blessings of God instead of the temporary things of this world.  APPLYING GOD’S WORD is our key to living an abundant life.  Today, we can hope in God and look forward to the day of His coming back again.

THIS WEEKEND WE WILL CELEBRATE THE RESURRECTION OF OUR SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST.  LET US PONDER ON HOW HE BECAME POOR SO THAT WE MIGHT BECOME RICH…IN RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM.  THIS IS GOOD NEWS AND LET US SHARE IT WITH SOMEONE ELSE WHO MAY NOT HAVE THIS ABUNDANT LIFE.

2CORINTHIANS 8:9

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.

2CORINTHIANS 8:2 – “of abundance of joy”

That in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded in the riches of their liberality.

ROMANS 5:17 – “of abundance of grace”

For by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.

LUKE 6:45 – “abundance” of the heart

A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil.  For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

PHILLIPIANS 1:9 – “walking as to please God”

And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment.

Shylethia Brown Williams, April 03, 2012
Prayer: Father, in the name of Jesus, we pray today for a closer walk with you concerning our bodies: physically, financially and spiritually. Lord help us find “our abundant life” here on earth and work to give you all glory and honor in all that we say and do.  May we take back the blessings the enemy of our soul thinks he’s taken so that we may finish our perfect work you have given us to accomplish. You are able to make all grace — every favor and earthly blessing — come to us in abundance, so that we are always, and in all circumstances, furnished in abundance. Forgive us when we sin by “wallowing in our abundance” instead of seeking you for you are creator and can satisfy all our needs and desires according to your riches on earth and in heaven…AMEN.

Love, Joy and Peace…Debra J Fuller Ellis

Reminder & for those of you just joining us either by contacting me or I personally added you: The purpose of Fast Wednesdays is to draw near to God on this specific day of the week fasting and praying in whatever manner the Holy Spirit is leading you as sisters in Christ…some have fasted from social media, coffee, or observed a traditional fast with no eating from sunrise to sunset with only liquids for the day, no deserts, etc. I know many of us for various reasons participate every week but in different manners. This has still been beneficial and the sisterhood continues to grow!

The key ingredient is that we are doing this together as sisters, of all ages, in the Lord both chronologically and spiritually in accordance to: Titus 2 — A God-Filled Life 3-5Guide older women into lives of reverence so they end up as neither gossips nor drunks, but models of goodness. By looking at them, the younger women will know how to love their husbands and children, be virtuous and pure, keep a good house, be good wives. We don’t want anyone looking down on God’s Message because of their behavior.

Note: Please share Fast Wednesdays with your friends and/or send me names to add to the distribution list. For now, I will post in three places: email (djf52055@gmail.com), Facebook (Debra Fuller Ellis) and blog https://fastwednesdays.wordpress.com
