Welcome all Fast Wednesdays* participants to the exciting world of blogging!
As many of us turned the calendar from 2011 to 2012, we encounter the “traditional” time of year when most of us start making plans for the new year such as career goals, personal fitness goals, we make financial health assessments and gauge our spiritual tanks and temperatures. I agree, we are all to be commended.
This month in particular, where I work, we have performance reviews, where our managers rank us and let us know how well we are doing against our plans from last year. Since I have been around here for over 30 years, I have also taken this concept into my personal life. My husband and I usually set down and come up with plans for our marriage, home, vacations, etc. for the new year. We too try to look at how the previous year unfolded and ways we could do more…the point is, just launching out on your goals and not taking the time to review how well you have executed against them is pointless.
Do you have an accountability partner? If not, I suggest you pray over the matter and either get one by seeking one out or asking someone whom you admire and trust for suggestions. I have found that over the course of my life, I have made many plans and have not always succeeded for numerous reasons but it seems I do better when I have someone I know is going to ask me how am I doing.
That leads into our scriptures for this week: Proverbs 19:21 and Proverbs 3:5-6.
Proverbs 19:21 (NKJV) There are many plans in a man’s heart,
Nevertheless the LORD’s counsel—that will stand.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV)Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
As I make and prepare my plans annually, my priority is GOD. GOD is always first in my decision making or if he isn’t, I typically end up blowing it somehow and start over planning with him in them. It has definitely taken me years to get here and so I want to pass along this advise so many of you younger ones will not have to suffer the pain, anguish and disconnectedness I did. Plus, GOD’s plans are normally “exceedingly and abundantly above anything we can ask or think anyhow” which means we will end up doing far greater things but through and with his direction and guidance.
Trust is also key, because if you can’t trust then you probably won’t relinquish control … so I’m praying for us to learn how to trust, obey and depend on GOD emphatically!
2012 Basic/Fundamental Goal Ideas:
Finances – For all of us: 1) do you have a free checking account, look at credit unions and 2) do you have a savings account which we do not touch even for emergencies? My friend Shylethia Brown, who is on copy, is with Bank of America and can help with free accounts but you would have to contact her for more details 3) For you young moms, do you have a 529 for your children’s education? 4) For us seasoned women, what about a legacy account? 5)
Fitness – I am the captain for the Lionesses of New Life to participate in the Susan G. Komen 5K Race for the Cure (actually we will be walking the 5K, and if you want to join us or donate let me know and I will send you the information).
Spiritual – here’s a challenge for us “Read” our weekly scriptures daily for the week, “Reflect” on what GOD is saying to you through the verses and “Respond” to GOD in prayer and/or in a personal journal. I’m trying to align the scripture(s) with the topic.
Weight Loss – If you are setting weight loss goals, there’s an online bible study hosted by Melissa Taylor with Proverbs 31 women called “Made to Crave” and they are studying the subject book by the author Lysa TerKeurst and it’s a resource worth “checking out” if you’re interested. (Google it or email me for further details)…they’re on Week 2 of 6.
Finally, I watched the State of the Union address last night and all I will say today is: God Bless U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords and the eighteen other people shot during the public meeting held in a supermarket parking lot in Casas Adobes, near Tucson, Arizona, in 2011…God Bless our Veterans…God Bless our students and teachers…God Bless our President and ALL leaders…God Bless America…!
In his Matchless Name!

Reminder/Disclaimer: *The purpose of Fast Wednesdays is to draw near to God on this specific day fasting and praying in whatever manner the Holy Spirit is leading us as sisters in Christ…some have fasted from social media or coffee or no deserts, others have done a traditional fast with no eating from sunrise to sunset, liquids for the day, etc. I know many of us, for various reasons, participate every week but in different manners. We are seeing strong results and the sisterhood continues to grew!
The key ingredient is that we are doing this together as sisters, of all ages, in the Lord both chronologically and spiritually in accordance to: Titus 2 — A God-Filled Life 3-5Guide older women into lives of reverence so they end up as neither gossips nor drunks, but models of goodness. By looking at them, the younger women will know how to love their husbands and children, be virtuous and pure, keep a good house, be good wives. We don’t want anyone looking down on God’s Message because of their behavior.
(Last week a friend shared that she gave up Mountain Dew…I think all of you may understand how powerful that was for her. I particularly remember just how much I enjoyed a good old Mountain Dew soda. They did not make or distribute it in the North East where I grew up in New York so I could only get Mountain Dew in the summers when I was in North Carolina…made for some long fall, winter and springs:-)!
